Trying something new!* My title for this piece is "Not every day in the forest is a happy one." What do you think this whole "forest confrontation" is all about? I'd love to hear!
*I sketched these little critters one night, and then painted them, scanned them in. Then I very quickly inked the tree layer and played with brushes and such on various layers in Photoshop. What fun!
It's always good to experience different techniques. With brushes and digital technology. Good!
ReplyDelete()Obviously, I am old school :) you can imagine, what is my favorite! HA HA :)
Heyyyyy! That's a really cool look! I love it! I don't know what they're arguing about, but I think Mr. Bear needs to grab a hold of Mr. Squirrel or there'll be some deckin' going on.
ReplyDelete"Excuse me, sir, but you have no nuts."
?
Ohhh Let me be squirrel. I was squirrel last month! Oh boy. I sure was. Hahahaha! I love this look.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome and lovely! Hmmm...the fight? Maybe the squirrel is missing something and blaming lil mouse.
ReplyDeleteThank you Roberto..I know which is your favorite!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Bella..tooooo funny!
Goodness, Ces...watch out for Ces when she's ready to deck someone!
Yes, Michaele...could be! ; )
Thanks for visiting, everyone!
Cette petite souris me semble être une sacrée pipelette !! Une très jolie illustration.
ReplyDeleteGros bisous
SO cute! It would be fun to hand this picture out to a classroom of kids and have them tell you what Mouse is saying. They always surprise me with their thoughts!
ReplyDeleteLooks like that you had fun trying photoshop,Shirley!!! The combination of traditional and digital tools in this illustration is refreshing! Happy happy trying new way to create your lovely arts! I think the little animals are lost and the little mouse is saying that they should all listen to him before they got lost...just a little thought! ^____^
ReplyDeleteMan, that little squirrel sure looks PISSED!!!! His body language is FANTASTIC! The whole gang is adorable! I can tell you had fun playing around with this one! Each week I try to figure out something new in Photoshop - it adds to the IF challenge for me! This is another winner, Shirley!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely cute! How did you do the green background and while lines? And would you stop out-cute----ing me?!!? hee hee JUST kidding...I've never once out cuted you. hahaha
ReplyDeleteAdore, as always. Hugs xo
Lovely style! Seems like you used colored chalk for the background
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Maybe the smaller animals don't want to let the big one play and some of the critters don't think it's fair. I hate to see the big one with hurt feelings and I'm sure he would play gentle! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI agree, great body language. You nailed the angry squirrel Shirley.
ReplyDeleteWow Shirley i love love love your characters! I think the mouse is trying to give the squirrel some dietary advice, may be telling him if he eats too many nuts he might turn into a porker. I don't think he's taking it too well! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like how you play with backgrounds. Your characters are always super cute :)
ReplyDeleteI'm cracking up at some of these great one-liners and concepts, everyone..thank you for stopping by and commenting. I'm off to visit you all now..thank you!!
ReplyDeleteTotally fun!!! No doubt little mouse has experienced some boundary violation --isn't that always the way!? So cute!
ReplyDelete"Who moved my cheese?" (sadly, I think that was actually the title of a sales and marketing book in the late 1990s). So cute, I loved pouring over each priceless little expression. Great seeing you have some fun with digital tools. I don't think I'd be quite so successful at attempting watercolor. I especially love the little flower details.
ReplyDeleteThe critters are the best part of course, but I really love what you did with the tree layer! It's so simple but looks so great with the little guys. As for their story, well, here's what I heard:
ReplyDeleteThat extremely innocent bear right there? Caused the whole thing. That's right. You see, he "borrowed" a box of macaroni and cheese from the red squirrel. The red squirrel came home, saw his last box of macaroni and cheese was gone, and immediately went next door to blame the little chipmunk, who is the adopted child of the mouse.
The mouse happened to come home from a swim just as the red squirrel had begun tearing through the tree looking for his box of macaroni and cheese. Of course the mouse was none too happy to find him there! (You get the idea. I think I've gone on long enough. Will the bear confess? I think so.)
The piece of chalk in Mouse's hand is the clue; he just wrote 'Kick Me Hard!' on Squirrel's back. Now Mouse is trying to deny it, but he's done it before, and this time Squirrel felt it. The funny thing is, Squirrel started the whole thing one day when he stuck a Post-It note on Mouse's back that said "Eat me, I taste good".
ReplyDeleteSo lovely and cute !!! j'adore !
ReplyDeleteShirley, this one is beautiful! I would never think it was done in layers! I think Mr. Squirrel is ready to bop Mr. Mouse because he was flirting with Sister Squirrel. In the meantime, Mr. Bear was about to write "Mouse and Sister Squirrel sitting on a tree..." when Mr. Mouse caught him and wrestled the chalk away from him. Now he feels guilty that he started this whole brouhaha! hee hee!
ReplyDeleteGreat characters Shirley and I love the “experimental” background. The squirrel is so upset because the mouse is saying, “From now on we go in alphabetical order. Bear, chipmunk, mouse THEN squirrel."
ReplyDeleteOoh I love the white line work on top of this!
