dressing up their dogs.
We haven't purchased clothes for our dog..she's shorthaired and mostly an indoor dog, so we don't really have a need to. I must say, it was difficult for me to see a tiny little dog fully dressed in raincoat, puffy booties and rain hat having the darnedest time trying to walk. I'm sure I'll offend some people but this was the first thing that came to my mind for this week's prompt and I had to get it out..sorry to all of you out there who love dressing your dogs..I'm sure they're not as overdone as these little guys..
Absolutely adorable, but do agree that doggies were not meant to wear boots! :) Love your illustrations! POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteHaha! Love this post and your adorable pup, Shirley! I can't agree more, actually...those poor darlings, primped against their natural will. What would Cesar Millan say???!!! :D :D :D
ReplyDeleteLol! These are so funny :) Love ur little 'troubled' guy with his cute rain coat and booties though! I don't think anyone would take an offence by what you wrote or have drawn...we have a saying here in Croatia, and it goes something like this- what's too much is not even good with bread! :) lol meaning there should be moderation in everything.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Shirley and thank you also for ur wonderful compliments over on my blog :)
Ant
LOL you are too funny! Your pup is way too cute for words!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I love this. I'll never forget my girls wanting to put sweaters on the poor chihuahua. They also always wanted a doggy Halloween costume. It just always makes me think of a little girl playing dress up with her pets and seems a little too much like torture ;)
ReplyDeleteAww this is adorable!!! Hahahaha and so true!
ReplyDeleteShirley, I'm guilty of dressing up little Roxy! But in my defense, I don't overdo it like some of owners of the furry friends featured. She wears little tshirts in autumn and winter while in the house and little coats and jumpers when she goes outside. She does look darn cute, but it's more to protect her from the elements. Although I should also confess I dress her up on Halloween, make her wear accessories, and she even has a bathing suit and her own purse! hee hee! Please don't hate me! :)
ReplyDeleteI had a dalmatian who didn't like to get her feet wet. I thought about buying her little red boots, but then I said "hey, you're a dog!" and shoved her outside barefoot. I might admit to covering her mother's spots with construction paper circles in different colors for Halloween though :) Very cute illustration!
ReplyDeleteHaha...to see the little one all dressed up is so cute...wouldn't it be so uncomfortable for 'em!
ReplyDeleteawwwww...lookit how POSITIVELY miserable he is...and how wonderfully you've drawn him! too cute, shirl!
ReplyDeletebut someday, i reeaallllly wanna see dogs get their turn and dress their HUMANS for a change. see what wacky costumes they come up with. maybe they just dress them like sausages and pork chops, and then EAT em! >:-)))
Your dressed-up doggie is so much cute than any real-life dressed-up doggie!
ReplyDeleteEs una belleza, amo tus ilustraciones.
ReplyDeleteFunny & cute!
ReplyDeletei love how the doggie looks very troubled! i've never dressed up mine either but i think they look amazingly cute with clothing!
ReplyDeletetee hee Shirley, that doggie does not like his boots does he. Personally I do not like seeing any animals dressed up although I was guilty as a 5 year old at tucking my cat Cilla into my dolls pram and taking her for walks ;0)

It is an odd thing... I anthropomorphise animal characters all the time for picture books, and even see human-like characterisation in animal faces, but I prefer my real animals to be free of fussy accessories. (Unless it is a practical back-coat to keep them dry or warm when necessary.)
ReplyDeleteA nicely groomed dog, left just as nature intended and provided looks right to me.
But, your little illustrated character gets the message across perfectly :o)
On hot days I always tell my bunny to slip off his furry romper suit and run free and naked if he wishes, but I can never find the zipper!
When I was a girl growing up, I used to dress up my kitties. But never dogs!!! LOL I did pop a Halloween hat on my eldest dog, Willow. It didn't last long!!! :) Adorable illustration, as always, Shirley!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think my cat would stand for any of that! Although when we were little, my sister and I would put hats on our guinea pigs and pose them on Barbie furniture.
ReplyDeleteOh my god Shirley! How cute is that?! So made me smile this morning :)
ReplyDeleteSpeak soon xx
little doggie is so adorable!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes our dog would stare off into space comtemplating the injustices of the world. I said to my wife, “I wonder what he thinks about.” Now after seeing you post, I know what he was thinking. ... “I’m so glad that I am a dog so that I don’t have to wear clothes like those humans!” Great post Shirley :o) Love your cute little guy and his expression. God bless :o)
ReplyDeleteBeyond cute as always...and I agree about dressing dogs. ;D
ReplyDeleteAwesome- love it!
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Awesome illustration. Sadly I did dress my little one but only to keep him warm in the winter and for halloween. There were limits of course, no booties. He had the same expression as the pup in your illustration when we tried a set at the pet store.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! I love the style...what a cute puppy!
ReplyDeletePoor one....but so adorable!
ReplyDeleteShirley, you're not only, excellent with your drawing, you're an excellent colorist,
ReplyDeleteand, if this were not enough,
you know to choose the right words and appropriate topics when it comes to interpreting a proposal.
You know what? I'm giving away trees full of perennial leaves, heart-shaped, to people who really appreciate.
OK,
in this comment I'll let one of those trees. ♥
Lol! If my dog was small I would probably put him in little outfits, but alas...Love the illo!
ReplyDeleteI love your illustration - that little doggy is not sure he likes it - great expression.
ReplyDeleteI have to confess that I do have a raincoat for my dog, but I use it sparingly! Only when it is raining really hard and she won't go out at all -- the raincoat helps a bit. But that's it! No t-shirts or Halloween costumes, or boots! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour little guy is very cute, though!
Love your little doggy! Reminds me of my time in Hong Kong where I'd often see dogs dressed to the nines! Once saw one with part dyed pink fur and wearing a tshirt, cap and sunglasses - poor mutt!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Shirley, you bring out the animal in people... err I mean you bring out the people in animals, erre that doesn;t sound right :) Well I mean you allow us to see how silly we are when we look at ourselves in the guise of another species,... we try and project ourselves onto them - and you made me laugh! Between yourself and Jack you are responsible for 140 percent of my laugh lines. heh :)
ReplyDeletetake care and be careful and see youze later alligator
PS when I see an attractive dog with an ugly owner I always want to bend down and whisper to the dog that soon they will look like their owner so it';s not too late to run off
ReplyDeletehi shirley.
ReplyDeletei just wanted to say hi :)
so.
hi.
:D
So charming...you manage to get perfect expressions so effortlessly! (Well, it seems effortless, but I'm sure it's not!) Hope you're enjoying this picture-perfect weather we're having...or maybe you're down south at the SCBWI conference!
ReplyDeletethat expression is priceless. so uncomfortable silly! do you ever show the progression of your sketches and illustrations, shirley? i would like that. ♥

Oh now this is going to be stuck in my head all day and night cause my sister and her hubby just got a little hot dog for my niece and she is already talking about getting some clothes for the little puppy. Hahahaha! Shirley This rocks! I totally share your opinion... poor little doggies all wrapped up in those uncomfortable clothes! I had a siberian Husky that HATED... he hateddddd anything over him beyond his fluffy hair.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous illustration as always :)
