~Barbosa, in the Pirates of the Carribean
A very big stretch for surrender, but the image of Elizabeth dangling the medallion over the edge of Barbosa's pirate ship kept popping into my head. This is a pencil sketch scanned and painted in photoshop. Changing it up (technique-wise) helps to clear my mind..what do you do to help when you're stuck in an illustration rut? I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

ReplyDeleteThis is just wonderful! I recognized Elizabeth immediately. I loved all the Pirates movies. :) Great job, Shirley! Theresa
ReplyDelete(((Shirley)))) I didn't know you were back from your break! Woot! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your piece of art of Elizabeth. Absolutely stunning. Hugs!
This is beautiful!...it is also reminds me of the Titanic movie. xx
ReplyDeleteSigning up for Illustration Friday was my first step out my illustration rut, I wasn't able to think of ideas otherwise. Looking at other people's art via blogs helps too. Trying out new techniques makes things interesting too when all else seems dull.
ReplyDeleteWow Shirley this is brilliant and so different from anything else I've seen you do before!!! :0) lovely lovely work!!! oxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI agree about the foreshortening, but it's still a nice piece with a good likeness. This is my first time visiting your site and I want to tell you that your work is amazing! Very inspiring stuff. I especially like the Where the Wild Thing Are inspired work.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! The illustrations on your blog are really SO cute! Adorable animals!
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley - what a lovely piece! I really like the moody colour scheme! I usually hunt through my books for inspiration and often, like you, try a different medium or technique!
ReplyDeleteHey it's great to do something different, like paint with your left hand, paint by feel - or sound :) It's a learning process with a new medium. But it's fun eh/? Your water colours are so good, it's a mistake to compare new things to them, but you can take the strengths of one and apply to the other perhaps.
ReplyDeleteThe woman's face is devine, it's a good composition and gets the message across!
i love seeing all aspects of your work, from cute cuddly polar bears to the gorgeous face of this woman! You are rocking the talent! xxoo
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty! Her face is quite elegant and refined. I want her lips. Nice job!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm in a creative rut, I eat. Pass me some gingerbread, will ya?
great mood! I too try new things to mix it up - getting on IF was a great help! Your blog is a wonderful inspiration :) Which reminds me that I've been ignoring my waterclours - must get vak to that! ;)
