One of my absolute heroes has passed....

Today I learned of the passing of one of my artistic heroes - Georgia Deaver. I am so saddened to hear of her passing through the Friends of Calligraphy, a calligraphic guild I've been a member of for many years. Georgia Deaver was and is an inspiration to me..and she had been someone I had admired throughout my years in college. Right after graduating, I decided to set my foot out into the freelance world, and I wrote a letter to Ms. Deaver asking for any advice on the subject. She wrote back to me. I remember how powerful that event was in my life..to receive words of wisdom and kindness from someone so acclaimed and established as her. I was able to attend one of her calligraphy workshops, and her sweet and kind nature blew me away along with her effortless skills and talent. To witness a master at her craft is something I view as a special gift in my lifetime.

My condolences to her family and friends of her passing. I will miss her amazing work but will continue to be inspired by what she has left for all of us to enjoy.

  3. Wow, thank you for passing on the info of her legacy, Shir. Her skill was amazing, and I'm sure she'll be missed. I see so much life in her strokes, and that's what makes art so powerful - it can manage to evoke the artist's life and spirit, even after they've left us.
