I also painted this version...
which do you prefer?

Adore your baby bear. I love them both but if I had to choose, the 2nd one is my favourite. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs to you. Missing daddy today. Sigh.
Oh, it was the Goldenlocks and three bears sneak preview!!! Uhhhh...tough choice between the bears...keep going to and fro...I might be more for the 4legged bear, might be 'cos you've already introduced him so it feels familiar...but both adorable!A tough one I must say :) Shirley your comment made my day/night!! I keep reading it cos it's sooo uplifting-thank you, thank you, thank you! :)I feel red in my cheeks from your praise, really, it's very humbling. xox Ant
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the first one best, because I like the bear to be a 'Bear' rather than a humanised character - even though they do live in a cottage! But much depends on the interpretation of the story. The dressed bear may be more appropriate if the story has them making friends etc... And it is only my personal choice anyway. Both are lovely. Thanks so much for giving us a sneak preview.
ReplyDeleteI love 4 legged bear without costume. It looks more magical and wild to me.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would love to see baby bear's parents before I say which one is better.
Are they going to be more cartoon character or realistic character in your story?
I think it really depends on your story telling style.
Wonderful water color pictures!
I'm going for Baby No 1 - he has such a cute expression!
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely and I love the tree in the room! If I had to choose I'd probably lean more towards the first bear because I like the natural bear look more than the more human-like one. But both are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThey are so adorable,Shirley!!!!!! I enjoy seeing your version of interpretations for this story! ^_____________^ Wonderful!!!!! Have a great week, too!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the first one! And I love the colour of the quilt!!! Such a beautiful use of watercolour!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the first one i think, though they are both are cute! I guess it depends what the story is and other bears look like. it may make more sense to have the bear clothed?
ReplyDeleteI like both, but if I have to choose then it's the first painting. The colors in both are brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and your nice comment. There have been two more Withered Barn posts and more are to come. Somehow Blogger had a glitch and your comment has gone missing, I certainly didn't delete it.
Anyway, have a great week.
Hmmm... seeing the replies so far, this is interesting. It would be good to hear what children prefer too.
ReplyDeleteIf you wanted to go with some clothes for the colour and identity value, but not full dress, perhaps baby could wear a little T shirt and the adult bears could have small token garments?
For example, Daddy could wear a waistcoat, and Momma could have a pretty bow!
Good luck with your character sketches. Whatever you decide... it will be lovely and much appreciated.
Lol...here's your child-target No#1 aka my 3yr old daughter....She likes the 2 legged bear more...explanation -cos she likes small bears and not the big ones...though the 1st one is not big but there you go Shirley..daughter has spoken too :))) Lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, and she told me -mummy you can have the 1st one...I love the 2nd one :))))
DeleteOh Shirley what beautiful work :0) I prefer the 1st as I like the bear "bare" ie not in clothes if you understand me. He is more a real bear but so gentle looking that he is no threat to the sleeping Goldilocks at all. Have a great week,
ReplyDeleteJane x
I think the first one, definitely!
ReplyDelete;)
Hi Shirley, my time is just the same as you use each time you come to my blog. my time is your time.
ReplyDeleteOk. you do not ask me, but I like the second version, I think it is sweeter.
Thanks for visiting my blog!!!
kisses and caresses on the heart ♥
That's a tough one--they are both so lovely! But I think I prefer the first one. There's something so quiet and sweet about how the first little bear is entering the room!
ReplyDeleteI have tried to comment several times but the catch phrase won't display. I hope it does this time. Hi Shirley. Thank you for your sweet words. I trully appreciate them. I am at Incheon, waiting for my flight to LA. I have two 7-hour layovers. Ugh. I did not realize that until I got here. I don't even know how many hours I have been traveling. Sigh. Can't wait to get back home. These illustrations are so adorable! You baby bear is precious!!!! Tsup!
ReplyDeleteWow Shirley - I just ADORE them both! :) But if I had to choose, I would choose the first one. I am quite smitten with that little bear. :)
ReplyDeletehello :)
ReplyDeleteI love both versions. My favourite...I think my favorite baby bear is the first one but if you are illustrating Goldilocks and the three bears story then the second one shows it better, the bear family have very human characteristics.
I love both versions too! Sorry Shirley I know that is really unhelpful! Why must you make both of them so good :D
ReplyDeleteThey are both beautiful but if I have to choose I will say the first one:)
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley, they are both beautiful versions! I love the 1st one as a whole illustration, but I'm in love with the 2nd baby bear...gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I still love the first one the most :)
ReplyDeleteShirley, they're both so adorable, it's so hard to choose. However, if forced to, I'd say the one without the costume. I love his brown fur and the fact that he looks so real! Truly you've outdone yourself with these illustrations! Goldilock's hair is so beautiful and her little teddy bear peaking out of the blanket is such a special touch. How I love these! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth adorable and you really can't go wrong. That much said, that jaunty little blue hat kills me it's so cute. I do prefer the golden hair in the first one though. Oh dear!
ReplyDeleteGosh, what a hard choice! They are both so very adorable. I think I lean towards the first one. I would hug both baby bears though.
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley,
ReplyDeleteI realize that you have very sensitive sense of humor, ha ha.
I'll tell you why I say this,
because you ask me what I'm working on,
I am lying on a couch reading a book! HA HA
(although, many times, I'm lying on a couch, apparently doing nothing, watching the clouds pass and pass
but actually I'm thinking about a script for a cartoon, or how to draw an illustration for a story, then I'm working
HA HA, good weekend for you :)
They both are gorgeous Shirley. It's tough to choose...yet if I had to choose one, I would go with the second as the bear looks really cute. The first one looks more wildish.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a pleasure some time here:)))
Both are great! I like the first one.
ReplyDeleteWonderful illustration! Love the first bear, he fits the atmosphere of the story better.
ReplyDeleteOops, I meant atmosphere of the picture!
ReplyDeleteThey both are adorable, but if I had to choose, I would prefer the second one in his cute blue shirt.
ReplyDeleteJust scrolling on through to see what i've been missing during a work work work period, which is a lot. Every scene is lovely. You have such a way with those brushes.
ReplyDeleteLovely I take the second, I like the style of the bear and I love the curl hair of the girl. Hey Shirly what size had the illustration?
