Ripple :: Illustration Friday

This is in response to the horrible disaster in the Gulf.
My heart goes out to all of the people and mostly the wildlife affected by this.
I wanted this piece to be a symbol of hope, and not sadness...perhaps a ripple of healthy Louisiana Brown Pelicans flying overhead in the near future.

Please visit Kelly Light's wonderful blog here to read more about her efforts to help.

  1. Shirley, everything is moving with respect to such disasters very difficult to recover. And there is no distance between us, the planet is one and for all.
    Here where I live, in the mountains of Cordoba, the constant struggle against pollution of rivers and lakes, never ends. An additional number of fires ignited by humans every year end up with thousands of hectares, very close to my house and it takes years to recover. But do not surrender. I congratulate you for your contribution.

  5. Beautiful work. Delicate treatment of a very important subject that, in my opinion, isn't getting the concern and headlines it deserves.

  9. How beautiful this is, Shirley. And what importance behind the message. I will definitely visit Kelly's blog. I have felt so helpless and seeing all the photos and newsreels of the animals in distress just leaves me in tears. Thank you for creating this lovely piece! :) Theresa

  12. Oh, Shirley, this is so beautifully delicate. Lovely shadows in the water. I can't get pelicans out of my mind, either. The image of them slathered in goo and being brushed down with Dawn is forever in my mind.

    Beautiful piece!

  14. Shirley, these are beautiful. Such haunting images of pelicans, dolphins and other sea birds. Also the marshes and swamps are the source of life for most of these creatures and they are being destroyed.
