Hi Shirley!!! This is quite a different piece to your usual work I think. The back ground is much more simple. I think this works great for the piece and gives the feeling of just how small she is and how big the woods are!!! I really like the softness of the back ground! :0) I'm off to think of what I'm going to do for this weeks piece!!
So nice of you to stop by, Nicola. Thanks for noticing! I have a wonderful new book that I've been just devouring, called "Hans Christian Andersen's Fairytales - illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger. She is amazing. I couldn't find a great link to post, but if you google her name, a lot of her beautiful illustrations come up. This was a sort of "homage" to her work..(my attempt to work with space and backgrounds more). I had a great time with it..and I'm glad you mentioned the different "feel"! I will be by to see what you're up to...! : )
This is beautiful Shirley, I love the wash down the path. I finished the firefly piece, tentatively anyway, I hope you will check it out and see what you think about it now. Let me know if you think the boy on the left still interferes with the focal point. I would really appreciate it!
Very intriguing Shirley, I love the feel of this piece. You've told quite a story in this painting, Miette is walking so purposefully down the path with her crown and invitation...is it to a tea party, a birthday party? I can't wait to find out! I only hope there isn't a nasty wolf or villian at the other end, these stories usually turn out like that, but at least the heroine emerges unscathed! Will definitely stay tuned! Also checked out the artist you are paying homage too, beautiful job!
My favorite thing about his piece are the lines. They add a sense of movement--even of uncertainty, as our little heroine wanders into uncertain territory.
This illustration is simply beautiful!! You have a created a fantastic atmosphere in the piece...and a brave little girl! :) Thanks for stopping by my blog and welcoming me to illustration friday! glad to hear you're also a fan of ginger too! :)
Such a beautiful and delicate, yet strong illustration, bold and brave' You have such a wonderful style, lovely to look through your blog. Thankyou for your lovely coments'
Ms. Shirley! Once again you have astonished us with your lovely watercolor. Miette is very brave indeed. I would love to see more of her adventures into the wilderness. What will she discover? Will it be friend or foe...?
I agree with the above. The gestural strokes and simplicity adds a great deal emotionally to the image. It's great to see you expanding and experimenting this way. Inspirational!
no one knows what will happen to Miette, for now the path is open and bright, but it becomes dark in the distance ... great work, it is very effective!!!
Thanks so very much everyone for swinging by..it is a complete treat to hear all of your comments! It makes me want to do more and more of this style. I hope you won't be disappointed with my next post..(what Miette discovers)....just to let you know, I had been working on this last week for a few days, and it coincidentally managed to work for this week's IF...at least I stretched it to work. ; )
Many thanks everyone...hope you're all well and having time to create!
