The Hummingbird Post :)

As promised, I'm finally posting about my hummingbirds.
Here is my 2nd assignment for the course I'm taking, Make Art that Sells (MATS) by Lilla Rogers. If you're interested, I blogged about bolt fabric (the 1st assignment) here.

So this past week's assignment was Home Decor! This assignment was to do "summery succulents". I had fun experimenting with my ol' calligraphy nibs, watercolor and super-fun dip pen. Once I scanned everything into the computer, it was TOUGH focusing on design. I had a few days to complete the task of four plates, but I found myself changing designs along the way. The day before the assignment was due, I went back to my trusty pencils and paper and re-layed out my designs. Once the designs were set, I was then able to plow through (granted until 2am, though), to finish in time. I knew I wouldn't have time on the day it was due, so I just kept working and it felt very much like my college days. :) HA!

Anyway, here is the final submission..I focused on watercolor hummingbirds, but then decided to mix it up with a geometric succulent leaf shape and the copperplate nib ink work. Trying to make it "summery" was something I lost sight of..but I was happy to try using some of the tips/tools taught by Lilla to come up with my very first "collection".

This week....Children's Books. Yikes!

And a few images of the pre-work. By the way, I just simply love hummingbirds..we have so many of these wonderful visitors each day and they are so fun to watch. Except for the occasional very loud fights between two hummingbirds..have you ever seen that? Fascinating to watch.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

  3. OMG OMG OMG, these are stunningly gorgeous!!! I'd totally buy these! I love the colors. And the lightness of your skillful brushstrokes. Holy moly, you are super talented. I mean, I knew that, and nothing you do should surprise me, yet here you are, knocking my socks off every time. I see a lot of hummingbirds here, too, though have never witnessed a hummingbird fight club. Bucket list.
