Hello!

Hi everyone - Wow! It's already the middle of January and I am so delayed in stopping by and updating my blog. This cold morning, I decided to work on one of my new year's resolutions, which is to take the time to create things when the mood hits. I have some client deadlines (shhhh..) but there is something very awesome about going with the flow and making something happen. So, this morning, I started sketching the second part of the first sentence of the song, At Last. I, like many, enjoy Etta James' infamous recording of the song. The sketch turned into the back of a pillow design that I have uploaded for approval through the envelop.eu site portal.  I am hoping it'll be approved and will let you all know if it does.

Of note,  I've been working with my youngest on our very first children's book idea. This is a true collaboration and it has been such an incredibly rewarding experience already. Who knows where the picture book dummy will take us!

And, my eldest is keeping us all busy as she is practicing hard for her first Teen play at the local community theater. I'm not sure how this came to be, but I am officially in charge of the painted floor. Yes, the floor. All 36 feet by 32 feet of it. Yikes! I've not ever painted anything larger than a 20"x 27" poster for college. Thankfully the overall image is not too complex and a bit organic, but this has been one heckuva challenge for my brain and body. Ha!

I hope you are all enjoying January so far. Wishing everyone good health as we hear of the flu traveling this way unfortunately. Hope you have fun projects on deck and I hope you'll take some time to go with the mood when it strikes and create something (even if deadlines are bellowing). : ) ~ Shirley

  1. Those pillow designs are wonderful, Shirley, especially how you enveloped the "at last" with the brush stroked heart. Really nice! Good luck with your other endeavors - I too know the burden of too many pots on the stove, but it's better to have more stuff brewing than nothing cooking, right? I've been working on my next children's book too and will post stuff later, right now it's in pre-pre-pre production, haha. Hope to hear and see more about yours as well. And painting a floor on top of everything? Wow, super mom!

  2. My, you are off to a flying start for the new year! Wonderful, wonderful! I loooooove that song too, and the pillows look divine. I'd love to rest my weary head on those. And yay to the picture book! That's an exciting and fun project, especially with that co-author of yours. And good luck with that floor, whoa! Break a leg to your teen! :)

    Happy new year, dear Shirley!

  3. Hi dear Shirley and a belated Happy New Year. It sounds as though you are having a great time but doing the usual Mum/work juggling! Those pillows are brilliant. Enjoy the singing, don't let anyone dampen down your enthusiasm.

  5. These are great! It really makes the song start to play in my head. As for your floor project, I can't imagine! I wouldn't think the audience could really see it. Good luck with all your projects!

  6. You'll have to take pictures of the floor when you're done. I've been roped into things like that before too, and sometimes they're more fun than other projects. Love the pillows, but now I've got that song stuck in my head :) Wishing you the happiest of new years!
