Before Satellite!

Growing up, my brothers and I eagerly awaited Sunday nights when
"The Wonderful World of Disney" came on. Television was a time when we all gathered together as a family to watch some of our once-a-year events. I have great (or should I say vivid!) memories of hiding behind dad's big blue chair during the "child catcher" scene in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", and the entire sequence of the flying monkeys in, "The Wizard of Oz."
Ahhhh..the memories. : )

  1. That's such a good memory for me, too! When we heard the music for the Wonderful world of Disney...it still gives me a feeling to think about it! My mother said I went behind the sofa to dress in my nightie so the TV people wouldn't see! heehee! ♥

  2. Yes, Shirley is exactly as you are counting. On Sunday night we watched with my brother and my parents to Disney World, Sunday was the world of fantasy, another was the world of adventure, and so ...
then take a bath and bed, getting up early on Monday to go to school very early. Very beautiful your illustration. I really like this wave that you are painting.

  3. Shirley, thank you very much for your comment. I think there is a small mistake, you think that my wife is 33 years old... Mmmmm ... Ja Ja, No, she has several more years. (But for me it's as if she were 33, haha). We actually have 33 years of marriage.
    Thanks, a kiss.

  6. Hello Shirley dear. You know, I really miss the old Disney Classic cartoons? I remember watching them on videos as a child and ended up ruining most of the tapes from rewinding them over and over again? Ah, those were the days...

I love this painting, it brought back so many lovely memories... :)) oxx

  7. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog just now Shirley - Oh my goodness yes! I remember those chip bags! We would share ONE of those twin-bags between us all... oh and it was six including mum and dad - just four kids :)

Wow I'm so glad your daughter loves those card designs, it's great because my brief was to create something that kids and adults could send - hurrah! Thanks Shirley, you've made my day!

  8. What a wonderful illustration. I have a very vivid memory of watching Disney when I was in labor with my oldest son. Aah, the days of no cable, oh wait, I have that now. We're waiting for U-Verse to come to our neighborhood so we've been only watching Netflix for the past few months.

I have to say, I don't miss it all that much.

  10. So sweet! I would be sure to watch The Wizard of Oz EVERY time it was on TV - I'd never miss it. Although when I was young, I was SO afraid of the witch houses peeking out from underneath Dorothy's house! :) Theresa

  12. Hey Shirley

You know what I love most about this? Apart from the kids, the wonderful memories, the classic television, the warm glow over a safe family gathering, the beautiful fresh water colour?

The aerial! It;s just a gem of a detail that sets the feeling for the whole work.

  13. ahhhhh, sweet memories, to this day the Disney theme music makes me reminisce. My grandparents still had a tv that looked just like this, that no longer worked with a newer, snazzier version on top of it until my grandfather passed away, great illustration, I love everything about it.

  25. Hey Shirley! Love this. Thanks for bringing me down memory lane! You described my Sunday night memories to a tee. The Wonderful World of Disney way the bestest and Vanessa said. The T.V. even looks like our old T.V. I remember sitting close to the T.V. and my dad would complain that he couldn't see through me :o) ... and us kids were the human remote controls when the volume had to be adjusted or the channel changed. Another winner my friend!

  30. Your illustration touches the heart with sweet memories of long gone days. Sunday nights and The Wonderful World of Disney was so much a part of the family routine. Your warm colours and watercolour work is charming. I am so glad I came by!

  31. Oh so sweet! Disney on Sunday nights, absolutely. It was a tradition! Did you ever watch the original Mickey Mouse Club in black and white? And Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Except for the killing scenes; couldn't watch those. Aaah, when TV was a family event. Good times, good times.

OH! Watched Alice last night and LOOOOOVED it! Whoa, so surreal!

  32. Do you know that my family did not have television until I was in high school? By that time, I did not like watching it then. I still could not get myself to watch television unless it's news and even then I am doing something else.
