Looking for summer...

Hello everyone! I hope you all are well. Today, I am sending my thoughts and well wishes to those affected by the devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma.

Today is a big work day...inking a fun children's piece of my favorite city, San Francisco. Once approved, I will share it with all of you. I also have been trying to paint more people. Kids, adults, boys, girls. Sketching, sketching, faces, bodies, positions. I must say, this is hard! I am still so far from getting to a place where I am happy with how to paint people. Do you have trouble with this too? Any tips, suggestions?

As for this little red-haired girl, she showed up on my watercolor block very faintly. She feels hopeful for a calm and pleasant summer ahead. It seems that we have turmoil and trouble, weather tragedies, and domestic and international tragedies and perhaps it's cause I'm aging, but it seems to be happening more rapidly these days. Let us all hope for a calm and peaceful summer and rest of 2013 ahead. Thank you so much for visiting dear friends! ~ Shirley

  1. The tornadoes were just dreadful weren't they Shirley, so sad that so many lost their lives.
You don't have any problems drawing people! This girl is just gorgeous, there is so much life in her, even her toes are dipping in the sea...she really is beautiful.
Have a good summer my friend,

  2. I agree about drawing people, I am much more comfortable with animals! But, I love your girl, she's lovely! I also agree with your second sentiment, it's seems like life out there is just crazy and tragic and sad. Hopefully, we will all get through these times.

I feel the same about domestic and international tragedies...maybe it's always been the same and the media is just giving more and faster information every year, I don't know...hope things get better.

  7. Oh, I'm with you. Hoping for peace and calm and gentleness. Oklahoma broke my heart, particularly the school. And now in London.... It does seem to be more and more frequent, doesn't it. Darn, this aging.

But lo! I come here, and I feel refreshed! She is a darling little girl. I feel like you should be the one giving tips, not asking for them, are you kidding me? And oooooh, the way the browns and blues swim at her feet -- gives me chills from all the awesomeness! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this project. Have fun, Shirley! xo

  9. Shirley, it seems like forever since I've dropped by your place! I have missed you. Unfortunately, I've had so many health issues as of late and even had to undergo knee surgery. What a fiasco! Nevertheless, I'm trying to get back on my feet and this blog of yours is just what the doctor ordered. The little red haired girl makes me smile and your words of hope in the aftermath of the tornado are inspiring. I can't believe the devastation and loss of human lives! So sad. I can't leave without telling you how much I love the new banner! I hope you are well! Hugs! :)

  10. I love your busy bee attitude, Shir! I myself am always working on my personal projects or trying to improve my craft as well, and it always strikes me with awe to see others so diligent about their work as well. And considering you have much more responsibilities than someone like me at the moment (read: doesn't have kids). I truly admire that! And the fact that you continue to want to improve and study is really inspiring. As for painting people, I'm sure I could offer some tips, but it all depends on the style and level of realism you want of course. But I love the way you paint yours - they fit into your world perfectly. Now venturing off into uncharted artistic waters is another thing. It can be scary, but also fun :)

  12. So sad what happened in Oklahoma, especially when children are involved. I hope you and your epsilons are safe and enjoying summer. I don't know what is going on but I seem to be busier as I age. Have you noticed that? Oh wait, what am I saying, you are not aging, just me. Hahahaha! Keep cool, dearest Shirley. Tsup!!!
