Compassion and wisdom

On a beautiful sunny day in the Santa Cruz mountains, California, my husband and I were married by my maid of honor's father who is a Buddhist reverend. Reverend Sasaki blessed our wedding with the words, "compassion and wisdom" and though I wish to profess that I think of this each day, I often think of what that means and how now, throughout all of the years being married, raising children, and thinking about the future of my children's world, how very important and wise these words are.

Most recently we suffered the tragedies in Colorado, Washington, Connecticut and New York. I have been so saddened by all of the senselessness of these acts and am not one to preach or shout about who's wrong, what we should do, and how crazy the world seems to be becoming..but all I can do is self-reflect and hope. I also sit and sketch, and draw..for it is what gives me peace when things get so hard.

In the spirit of warmth and compassion to others, please feel free to share this little "Care Hare" with others.

Thank you to all of my bloggy-wonderful friends who've visited me throughout the year here..you all are wonderful and each visit means a lot to me. I wish you a safe and healthy new year ahead everyone!  Peace and xo ~ Shirley

  3. It has indeed been a year of happiness mixed with sadness. I love your little care hare. I could put him on my sidebar...if that is what you meant. But the function to save him is disabled. Sweet hugs, Diane

  12. Very sweet and wise words, Shirley. Your artwork (and many of our artists' friends work) ripple out and counteract the horrifying sadness and injustice in our world. Thank you for that.
