They Draw and Cook - what an honor!! On the jumbotron this week! : )

I woke up this morning to such a wonderful email...it was from Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, the inspiring and creative brother-sister duo who are the co-creators of the wonderful site: TheyDrawandCook.com, which celebrates food and art and showcases illustrated recipes from all over the world!

For 7 days, my recipes will appear on their main "jumbotron" as a collection of my work and I am SO incredibly humbled and honored to say the least. Submitting my illustrated recipes and entering contests at TDAC have been such a personally rewarding experience.  I remember preparing my first illustration for them, "Salmon Rillettes", and trying to come up with something that told a story..it was the start of really thinking about story-telling in my artwork, and to have it appear on their site was just amazing. I went on to paint, "Chocolate Dipped Anything" which was such a fun project in itself, but having it appear on the Food Network's blog was more than I had dreamed of. "Croque Monsieur" was one of the most fun personal pieces I've ever worked on and I owe so much to Nate and Salli for the opportunity to do so and to publicly share my work with others through their generous site.

As a huge fan of Nate and Salli, I encourage you to visit them at their blog, www.studiosss.com for they create such amazing work themselves for so many products and areas of industry. Both are amazingly creative, yes, and on top of that they are two genuinely hardworking, sincere and generous souls who love creativity and support those of us in this field. A heartfelt thanks to you both for this wonderful honor!

  13. Shirley, this is so beautiful. Congratulations. When I read this I thought maybe I will draw some recipes and I had this idea of drawing dour people who eat peanut butter and bologna sandwiches and then I read the instructions, they have to be in color. Phooey. I will try to see if I can draw a series of dour people eating lousy and boring food, anyway! Hahaha! Tsup!

  15. YIPPEEE :) ripper love!! Whoop Whhopp (I know I can't out do Bella's whhopering :) ) Well let me say that your work rocks Shirley and they draw and cook should be honoured to have your work on their site. beautiful and full of joy as always. Funnily enough I was having a joke about Croque Monsiuer last night, how an old guy orders in and is informed by the waiter that he already is a 'crock'. It wasn't very funny though :) :)
