"Shaky" - Illustration Friday #10

Who invented those bridges anyway? I have always been the one in the middle - trying to look cool while hanging on for dear life...and yet, the bridges were always not so far off of the ground.

Thanks for stopping by...and comments, comments, comments, are very much appreciated. : )

  3. I've always thought these bridges were the scariest! In some countries, I've visited, cars travel on bridges very similar to these! Oh, I'm feeling the shaky feeling of this! Great narrative illustration and well rendered!

  4. Your handling of watercolor is SO lovely!
The only one who doesn't look scared is the boy in the back, but no wonder the girls already are testing out the bridge!

  5. great piece...
looks like the boy at the back is the culprit of the shakiness!

  6. Hi Tom, Ann,
Yes, you're right, Tom...the boy at the back is the culprit and didn't you always notice that there is ONE kid who does that sort of thing when on those shaky bridges? He or she would either stomp, or start pulling at the ropes to sway the bridge...I guess I'm sounding like a spoilsport, but they still make me kinda woosey just thinking about 'em. Thank you Samantha, Indigene, and Jack - you all make me smile and I appreciate your kind words. Wow, roads like these? That would be crazy...!

  7. Love your style! Real nice and intricate! Hope they passed the shaky bridge and reached the other side safely..though the guy at the bad seems to be having a rocking time doing this =)

  8. That last kid is surely having a 'rocking' time. Your watercolor over pencil sketch looks real nice!

  17. You have a lovely style here, and I love the concept - those bridges always remind me of Indiana Jones! I struggle to paint nicely with watercolour, I'm too impatient and you don't have the option of 'ctrl+z' !

Thank you for your lovely comment on my 'Shaky', it's very much appreciated! :)

We went on one of these last summer and I made that bridge shake big time hee hee he!

  19. This is great! You have so many comments! How long do you spend on average making an illustration? I always wonder how much time each one in a book is spent on. Because sometimes I can spend forever on one then sometimes no time at all!

  20. I'm smiling! Thanks everyone for your super comments - and for your having taken the time to stop by...oh my, I realize right now that it's FRIDAY, so I have to check the IF site for the new entry and get crackin'! Have a wonderful weekend! Squirrel Girl, I will touch base on your blog - although quickly, this illustration took about 2 hours - I sketched it at night for about a 1/2 hour (different layouts) and then in the morning, scrapped the whole thing, and re-drew it and then went for it. Watercolors take me a lot of time while the pen-and-ink/digital ones take less...(guess cause I can cntrl-z things! ha!). : )

  23. I was just going through your older posts- and viola- I see this! Of course, whipping out such lovely illustrations is child's play for you!
For me, this was a nostalgic trip to the forgotten days of picturesque books with stories that have a happy ending:)
